Gomez Peak Mountain Bike Trails | New Mexico

The trails around Gomez Peak, part of the Little Walnut Trail System are shared use trails and more like backcountry hiking trails than mountain bike trails, but they make for a good technical mountain bike ride with some hard climbing. The climb to the top is well worth the views and the mountain bike ride back down.

Ride Notes

We rode the loops up and around to the top of Gomez Peak and it was awesome. These are shared use trails and I wouldn’t really call them mountain bike trails. They’re hiking trails that are also open to bikes. It’s a tough ride and there were a couple short hike a bikes to get to the top of Gomez Peak. It gets rocky on a bench cut and there are a few real steep sections. It was awesome and worth the work up to the top of Gomez Peak for the view and then of course the ride back down to the bottom. All these new flowy machine built trails are fun, but I (Steve) love old school rough trails that make you work. Back country riding is also the best. This wasn’t really back country as it wasn’t that far out of a ride, but it had a great feel and you seeing the land and working your bike.
