Cervelo Caledonia Ultegra Di2 Endurance Road Bike: Custom Build

On This Page

Build Overview

This is a custom Cervelo Caledonia Ultegra Di2 build that started out as one of my demo bikes. I had been riding this frame in a previous configuration with Easton wheels, but when it came time to flip it for its new rider, we made a handful of changes to match what they wanted out of the bike.

The Caledonia is one of my favorite endurance road platforms because it blends comfort, classic road positioning, and still manages to feel fast. This build keeps the stock drivetrain and seatpost but gets upgraded wheels, a carbon gravel bar, fresh bar tape, and a few cockpit refinements to dial in comfort and handling.

Build Notes

This bike began as one of my personal demo setups, so it had already gone through a few configurations before landing in the version you see here. The new rider wanted comfort and stability, so we kept the stock drivetrain but made notable upgrades to the cockpit and wheels.

The Easton EC90 AX carbon gravel bar is an interesting choice on a road bike, but it works. A lot of riders prefer the flare and the comfort—it’s something I personally enjoyed when I was riding this bike. The Lizard Skin 3.2 tape pairs well with it, giving the bar a very soft, confident feel, even barehanded.

For the saddle, we swapped to the Ergon Allroad model, which has an additional foam layer under the shell to absorb vibrations. It’s been a popular option for riders who want that blend of road performance with a touch of gravel comfort.

The biggest functional upgrade is the wheelset. We installed Boyd Podium 36 mm carbon wheels—still hooked rims, which gives the rider full tire versatility. These wheels are a nice jump in performance over the stock endurance wheels without getting into crazy-high pricing. The buyer decided to start with the stock 30 mm Zaffiro Pros until we revisit a tubeless setup later.

If I were to do one more upgrade, it would be a carbon seatpost with minimal offset. That would complete the comfort package. But for now, the rider wanted to begin with the stock post and feel it out.

The Caledonia platform itself continues to impress—comfortable geometry, generous stack, and fast enough to hold speed on group rides or long road efforts. It won’t respond like a Soloist or S5, but once you’re rolling, it’s a smooth, fast endurance bike that still looks sleek and sporty.
