This was an epic race! It was a full Iron Man distance triathlon, but off-road. The swim was off course the standard 2.4 mile swim, but then the bike was a 112 miles of mixed soft and chunky North Dakota gravel and ATV trails. The run was an around 28 miles of hard hiking with a couple sections of gravel connector roads. We spent miles hiking up a rocky and overgrown creek. Steep hills, etc… It was a hot one with a lot of people not making it to the finish. Steve finished 2nd overall in the event. The swim did not go well and he was one of the last handful of people out of the water. He chased up to 1st position on the bike, but was only in the lead for a couple of miles before falling back to 2nd. He finished the bike as the sun was going down and finished 30 minutes behind the winner in just under 24 hours of total race time.
