The Gamehaven Mountain Bike Race is part of the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series and is held at the Gamehaven trail system near Rochester, Minnesota. It’s a nice course for racing with opportunity to pass and a variety of singletrack. Rochester is also a good drive from the Twin Cities so the field is usually solid. mnmtb.org

This was Lynn and Reid’s first race in Comp after racing Sport last year and Kyle’s first race in Elite after racing Comp last year. This was also mine (Steve) and Kyle’s first time racing mountain bikes in the same race together. It was awesome and was the start of a really fun year of racing. I held him off at this race, but he started beating me later in the season. Kyle got a stick caught in his derailleur early in the first lap and had to pull off to clear it and then he was chasing back up the rest of the race.

The 2021 Gamehaven race was a mud fest. It rained during the Kid’s Comp race and the trail was a mess by the time the last kids came off the course. They went ahead and sent out the Citizens racers and the bikes were an absolute mess. We were waiting for Lynn to come by on her lap to tell her to pull out of the race… She ended up walking her bike out mid course because the mud was packing in around her tire and frame and stopping the tire from moving and never even made it thru the first lap. I was scheduled for the Elite race in the afternoon, but pulled out when I saw what the bikes were looking like coming off the course. BTW, that was Lynn’s first ever mountain bike race…
